Monument Valley, Utah
Positive section of review
This lodge, along with The View Hotel, are the only accommodations inside Monument Valley. Since The View was fully booked for my dates, I chose this place as an alternative. Unfortunately, it fell short in terms of facilities and staff service, especially considering the high price. Even the sunrise view from the property was underwhelming. The only real advantage is its location.

The facilities feel outdated, and the staff’s understanding of basic service is seriously lacking. From the front desk staff at check-in to the restaurant staff, their behaviour came across as unfriendly and careless—likely because they don’t have much competition in the area. The restaurant experience, in particular, was disappointing. The staff’s attitude was condescending, and the seating arrangement policy gave the wrong impression. I had both dinner and breakfast there. Dinner was fine, since the restaurant was packed and I didn’t care much about where I sat. But breakfast was another story. After watching the sunrise, we went in very early, when the restaurant was half empty. There were plenty of empty window tables (mostly four-tops), and the groups seated there were mostly couples. Yet we were guided to a smaller table away from the windows. When I asked to switch, the waitress insisted they had a “system” where they seated guests “in order.” That already didn’t make sense. I explained that I also needed more space for my laptop to work, and asked again for a four-top. Instead of accommodating, the waitress replied, “What do you need a bigger table for? You’re only two,” in a dismissive tone. When I pointed out the other couples already seated at window-side four-tops, she sighed and reluctantly moved us—not to a window seat, but to a corner table near the kitchen. Again, this was when the restaurant was still half empty, with several window tables available. When I asked why we couldn’t have a window seat, the waitress claimed those were reserved for four people only. Yet right in front of me, multiple two-person groups (all Caucasian, notably) were seated at those very tables. When I pointed this out, she rolled her eyes, muttered “Ok whatever you want,” and walked away mid-sentence. After breakfast, I raised the issue with the manager. Her response was, “Well, everyone here is nice and friendly to our guests, so I don’t know why that happened.
New York, New York State
Positive section of review
New York is comically bad at hotels but this was a fine, cheapish and well-staffed place. Kinda didn’t realise there were shared bathrooms, which could have been cleaner, and the electrics in the room gave out, but that’s New York’s silly fault. For a major city it really can be quite Victorian!

Location amazing. Very scenic area. Beautiful house with great facilities and very well equipped. There was nothing that if you'd forgotten to bring wasn't already in the villa. Lots of information available of surrounding area of places to go etc.

House was lovely. A few repairment's could be made. The mosquito door on the bedroom balcony was broken and difficult to open. Just a few snags here and there that need to be taken care of.

Great decor and fab facilities. Love that the hotel is part of the wider Espanola Way with loads of great little bars and restaurants in 1min walking distance.
