Great location, clean great staff

Our superior room was lacking in decoration of any kind whatsoever. Also the scaffolding outside made the room even gloomier. Although there was a place on top of the refrigerator for a coffee maker, the owners didn’t provide that basic necessity. The restaurant didn’t look very inviting so we ate all our meals away from the hotel. I really feel that the hotel is grossly overpriced for what they offer.

The location was good and the rooftop bar was enjoyable.

Had an issue with luggage where I had to literally take my luggage in myself. No one to help mid morning.

When I was heading back to the airport I could feel the bellmen in the lobby competing with each other to be the one to get my my taxi and sort my bags (presumably for commission / tips) and this left a sour taste in my mouth right at the end of my trip. They were basically arguing with each other in the lobby while I was stood right there. Plus I ended up having to pay far more for a taxi to the airport because of this. If this happens again I’ll be more strict about sorting my own bags and travel.

My room was the best I’ve had in NYC - a little haven amongst the craziness of the city. Big bed, lots of space and plenty of room to unpack. Massive bathroom. Delicious free coffee in the lobby in the early mornings. I loved using the gym and studio next door for morning pilates. The location was perfect, so central and lots of shopping, exercise classes and food nearby.

I have stayed at other hotels listed by LHW before, but this one was disappointing compared to them. There was nothing in the minibar, not even water in the room. For the first two days, they asked me to sign a bill for breakfast. When I told them that breakfast was included in the room rate, they said it was “procedure.” Then, when I was checking out, they tried to charge me for breakfast again, and I objected. In the end, they did not charge me. This hotel does not live up to the standards of LHW hotels.

There is No kettle in the room and nothing in the minibar. No tea no coffee.

Room is clean and big. It is important that the room has soundproof window.

The rooftop bar was absolutely brilliant, with the most incredible views. The rooms were lovely and very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Scaffolding all over building, workmen outside window. Wasn’t aware the hotel would be taking $150 deposit each day which we hadn’t factored into our budget. Even though you put the do not disturb on door staff still come in. Rooftop bar was great but it was very expensive and range of soft drinks/mocktails was poor. We didn’t feel welcomed on one of our visits, there were loads of tables available but we were told too busy for a table even though in the time we were there tables were never used. You can use the bar but it doesn’t even have anywhere to sit. Complimentary tea and coffee would have been welcomed which is offered in much cheaper hotels.

Valet parking, waited an hour and a half to get my car back. Concierge said she was not able to contact the garage but the bell boy ended up doing so to help us out. Made me wonder why the concierge could not?

Wish there was a coffee maker in the room and while it was not important to us, the lobby is super small which would make a quick meeting for business purposes difficult.

There's some construction being done on the building outside but it wasn't much of a problem.

Surprisingly spacious and comfortable historic hotel right in Times Square with all the conveniences that offers. Friendly staff, excellent housekeeping and nice little touches abounded during the trip. Rooftop bar is a great place to recharge even if it's a bit pricey!

The elevators are very sub standard- very old and very very slow- there is a need to elevator refurbishment . I was staying on the 6th floor (ironically just next to the bank of elevators) and often would be stranded for many long feeling minutes before an elevator finally arrived. I think the rooftop access elevators complicate the set up. There was also a slight inconsistency of service in the cleaning of the rooms. Leaving the green service light on does not automatically ensure cleaning within a (say) 3 hour window/ so always best to find the cleaners to tell them to service the room. Provision of water in the room is a nice touch but on one of the days I stayed there the water was not replenished. Also it is strange there is no coffee maker in an otherwise well supplied deluxe level room. There is a cafe downstairs but it’s not open all the time. Maybe the reception can make coffee but no one told me that in check in!

The quality of the hotel does not match a 5-star standard. Additionally, cleanliness could be improved. We stayed for five nights, but it seemed like housekeeping only changed the towels and skipped cleaning the room on most days.

The grumpy, very large, security man on the door who made us feel like we were an irritation to him. All other staff were excellent.

Minor point but the outside of the hotel is covered in scaffolding and netting undergoing a renovation. That prevented us seeing outside having chosen a City view room.

We are walkers. We walk everywhere and spent our days walking the length and breadth of Manhattan. Being in Midtown was ideal as getting to uptown or downtown was easy. The hotel furnishings are high end and all the staff go above and beyond to help in any way. It is the staff and their attentiveness that in our view made this a special location.
