My fiancé and I stayed at La Maison de Tanger for 4 beautiful nights. We were in Tangier for a wedding at Villa Mabrouka at the weekend, but came to stay at La Maison to get to know Tangier beforehand. The entire staff made us feel so comfortable and welcome, especially Sandra and Oussama who came to feel like friends very quickly. Our bed was incredibly comfortable and the shower very good, and the decor is absolutely gorgeous. We also took advantage of the hammam and had gommage and massage treatments which were really lovely and we’d highly recommend. It was hardly cold by English standards but as soon as the slightest chill hit the air a roaring fire would be lit in the dining room to make sure it was extra cosy. We liked it so much that on our final day, after the wedding, we came back to say goodbye and nurse our hangovers by the peaceful pool. The owners of the hotel also happened to be in town when we were visiting and seemed like lovely people, and it was a delight to experience in their Tangier dream!

It was lovely. Please offer decaffeinated coffee. The staff was wonderful - in particular, the young man who brought our drinks up to the patio. Please thank him for us and encourage him.

What a wonderful establishment. Of course in Morocco you”re not going to find Howard Johnson style cookie cutter hotels. Each hotel is unique and Dar Tanger has all the colourful, exotic Moroccan decor you’d expect at a great location down an alleyway in the Medina. What’s really cool is the proprietor Larbi. He has a big heart and personality, has run more than one business in the Medina and is well known. He is zealous about his guests, their safety and enjoyment and he’ll do anything he can to make his guests stay enjoyable. Larbi has some restaurants with favoured pricing (believe or not as you don’t usually bargain on meals) and within a day I found myself known by more than one local which is nice when you’re a stranger in this environment. He’s also very concerned that his guests are treated fairly in the Medina. He walked me to the bank and ticket office interpreted on my behalf and waited till I was done. Larbi bailed me out on a jewlery purchase that was going to cost 1,150 Dirham. He walked me to another store where I was able to get better quality for 400 dirham. Might not be a 5 star hotel (whatever that means) but it’s a 5 star attitude at Dar Tanger.
