An Unforgettable Stay – Truly the Best Ryokan Experience in Kyushu My trip to Beppu wouldn’t have been complete without staying at SEKIYA RESORT Bettei Haruki — it was absolutely perfect. Having experienced many onsen stays across Japan — from Kanto, Yokohama, Izu to Kansai — I can confidently say that the service, environment, and value for money here were truly outstanding. From the moment we arrived, the host (possibly the owner) warmly helped us with our luggage and made us feel completely at home. While waiting to check in, we were shown an easy-to-understand instruction video that was filmed on-site — a thoughtful and practical touch. Throughout the stay, the host was incredibly attentive, confirming our meal preferences and dinner times with great care. It genuinely felt like we were being welcomed into someone's home. A special highlight — as it was summer, we were greeted with unlimited Ramune soda as a welcome drink, which was not only refreshing but also incredibly heartwarming. After settling in, we enjoyed the private outdoor onsen just outside our room. Because the ryokan only has a limited number of rooms, we had plenty of privacy and time to enjoy the tranquil garden view — which was absolutely beautiful. Dinner was the true showstopper. I’ve had kaiseki meals at many ryokans before, and often found them lacking in quantity or taste — but not here. This was Michelin-level dining, from the appetizers to dessert. The shabu-shabu was unforgettable, featuring high-quality, locally sourced Kyushu beef that was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I genuinely believe this was the best kaiseki meal I’ve ever had — and I’ve tried many. To make it even more special, the host personally served each course in our room, with perfect pacing and care. I would honestly return to Beppu just for this dinner. On the day of check-out, the host saw us off at the door with such warmth — we truly didn’t want to leave. We kept talking about how incredible

amazing food, design, and hospitability. I highly recommend it !

The villa and maisonette experience was extraordinary, as both properties have unique views. The maisonette has lovely sea view and the villa has a beautiful small Japanese garden. Both properties are very private and the amenities are excellent. Although our stay was expensive in our view, it is worth the experience and we would love to return to this property again. We also love the private onsen which we used day and night and also we enjoyed wearing the traditional yukata and the thick overcoat which kept us warm during the buggy ride to the gahama seikai tower for breakfast. The breakfast spread was also very good. The housekeeper managed to retrieve my ear stud back button when i told them i lost it. Thank you for the wonderful service!

It was a great buffet breakfast with a mix of western and Japanese foods. I enjoyed it. The scenery at the breakfast area was great too, with the beach and the garden that is visible via the window.

Excellent location. The building is beautiful, well kept, and with all the required amenities. The room was spacious, and very comfortable. The private onsen was just the icing of a cake. The staff was very polite and helpful as well. I'll surely be back!

Excellence service mind of staff with good English. Every corners in room are perfectly clean include out door onsen. Amenity provided in room are good. Nespresso and Dyson dryer in room.

Nice and clean apartment with a private onsen. We had a beautiful view from our balcony. Excellent services, free parking and a friendly host. The "Hells of Beppu" is only a few minutes by car.

Very comfortable traditional ryokan with private onsen bath. Loved the private onsen downstairs too. Staff were very friendly and helpful, with one being able to speak to us in Chinese. Loved the complimentary beer in the lobby too!

The room was very spacious and clean. The private onsen and spa were amazing. Hotel staff very helpful and friendly. The stocked fridge was a bonus.
