Surrounded by beautiful gardens, Shamrock Lodge Hotel is a family-run hotel located in the very centre of Ireland, just 5 minutes’ walk from the restaurants, bars, and nightlife of Athlone town... We had an unusual experience during our stay here. We had a lovely room, very large and comfortable, and all the reception people we dealt with were very helpful. In the morning after our first night, my husband had a kidney stone attack, and we had to go to the hospital. It was a Sunday and the receptionist told us we needed to go to Portiuncula Hospital and she called a taxi. After that, he was admitted to hospital, and I was on my own for the next night and I had to add on one more night, which was in a smaller room, but equally as comfortable. I appreciated being able to have dinner at the hotel for the two nights on my own, and the meals were very good. I had the breakfast on one morning, and it was very good, with lots of variety. I also appreciated the kindness and understanding of the reception staff. On the morning I left, because I had to wait for a taxi, the receptionist had tea and a biscuit brought to me. It was a memorable stay, perhaps for the wrong reasons, but I will always remember the staff at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel.

We only stayed for one night, but the rooms were big, comfortable and clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
